A 25-year-old man has been charged with burglary and theft for a break-in Wednesday (January 27) in Hilo.

At 11:01 p.m. Wednesday, South Hilo Patrol officers responded to a burglary alarm on the 200 block of Kūkūau Street. They observed a man running from the scene, who fell during a foot pursuit onto a yard at a nearby house. Police arrested the man, Colin Kerrigan, who has no permanent address. In the area where he had fallen, officers recovered two television remotes and a TV power cord. Further investigation revealed that a television had been removed from the house with the alarm.

Kerrigan was taken to the Hilo police cellblock while detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section continued the investigation. During the investigation, detectives recovered all the stolen items.

At 12:30 p.m. Friday (January 29), Kerrigan was charged with first-degree burglary and third-degree theft.

His bail was set at $5,500. He remains at the cellblock pending his initial court appearance scheduled for Monday (February 1).
