During the week of March 16, 2015, through March 22, 2015, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 12 motorists and one boater for driving/boating under the influence of an intoxicant. Two of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 213 DUI arrests compared with 310 during the same period last year, a decrease of 31.3 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 316 major accidents so far this year compared with 391 during the same period last year, a decrease of 19.2 percent.

So far this year, there have been five traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with three during the same period last year, an increase of 66.7 percent.

To date, two fatalities were related to drugs (2), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (0).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
