Media Release

Hawaiʻi Island police have arrested an inmate at Hawaiʻi Community Correctional Center in connection with a burglary last year at a business in Kurtistown.

On July 31, 2014, someone entered a flower warehouse on North Ala Road and removed various items.

Police investigation linked the burglary to 22-year-old Luke Kaniaupio, who had been sentenced to jail in January for unrelated crimes.

He was arrested Thursday (May 15) and charged with second-degree burglary. His bail was set at $2,000. He was returned to HCCC pending his initial court appearance on the new offense, which was scheduled for Friday (May 15).
