Hawaiʻi Island police initiated a coroner’s inquest case after a body was found Friday morning (June 5) under a bridge along the Hāmākua Coast.

In response to a 9:10 a.m. call, officers were assigned to the the Nanue Bridge in the Umauma area near the 18-mile marker of Highway 19, also known as the Hawaiʻi Belt Road. They located a man’s lifeless body at the bottom of the bridge.

Detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section are continuing the investigation.

Police ask anyone with any information about this case to call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.
