Media Release

On (August 22), several community members met with police officers for a “talk story” session at a local restaurant in Hilo.

For about 2 hours, the Hawaiʻi Police Department’s South Hilo Community Police Officers partnered with Zippy’s Restaurant in Hilo for “Coffee with a Cop”, which is a community event that provides an interactive opportunity for police officers to engage in an open dialogue to discuss community concerns and foster partnerships between the community, the business sector, and police in a comfortable café type setting. During the event, discussions between community members and police officers ranged from scams, identity theft, and other concerns.

Coming up (October 4), is “National Coffee with a Cop Day” and police officers across the United States will partner once again with Starbucks and host community members nationwide. The department’s Community Policing Officers will be available from 8:00 a.m., to 10:00 a.m., at Starbucks at the Prince Kuhio Plaza off of Ohuohu Street in Hilo.
