A Kona man was charged with burglary and related offenses after a family caught him at their home in Kailua-Kona.

At 4 p.m. Sunday, a 57-year-old man returned to his house on Hoene Street and found two men on his lanai. One had a bag belonging to a family member that was filled with items from the house. He threw it at the victim and then both suspects attempted to flee on foot.

The family was able to hold one of the men until police arrived. The suspect, identified as 18-year-old David Daniel Styopin of Kailua-Kona was arrested and taken to the Kona police cellblock while police continued the investigation.

At 9:10 p.m. Sunday, he was charged with first-degree burglary, second-degree theft and unauthorized possession of confidential personal information. His bail was set at $6,000. He remained at the cellblock until his initial court appearance on Monday (September 14).
