Hawaiʻi Island police have charged the Pāhoa man who was arrested last week following a stabbing in Pohoiki.

At 6 p.m. Friday (October 9), 61-year-old Boris Ivanovich Vereshak (previously identified as Boris Yarmolyk) was charged with first-degree assault, third-degree assault and two counts of second-degree assault. His bail was set at $10,000.

He was held at the Hilo police cellblock until his initial court appearance scheduled for Monday (October 12).

The victim, a 24-year-old Pāhoa man, was released from Hilo Medical Center on Friday after treatment for multiple stab wounds.
