Responding to a call Friday (April 4, 2003), North Kohala Patrol officers determined that a manila envelope containing $3,000 in cash — in $20- and $50-dollar bills — had been taken from a safe in the school clerk’s office.

The money had been collected for the school yearbook and for other school activities.

The theft had occurred sometime between December 26, 2002, and January 9, 2003, school authorities said.

Anyone with information about the theft or the identity of the thieves is asked to call Officer Lawrence Kobayashi of the North Kohala Patrol at 889-6540 or the police non-emergency number at 933-3311.

Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. The numbers are answered 24 hours a day. Callers will be given a coded number and their identity will remain anonymous.
