The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and Hawaii Police Department are offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in the arson of Waiakea High School.

The fire occurred in the early morning hours on April 11, 2006, at the high school, located at 155 W. Kawili Street in Hilo. Police responded at approximately 1:15 a.m. No one was injured in the fire and the property damage is estimated at $1.5 million.

“We take this incident seriously and are committed to pursuing every investigative lead,” said ATF Special Agent in Charge Kelvin N. Crenshaw.

“We urge anyone to call if you have any information that would assist us in apprehending the responsible persons in this case,” said Captain Chad Fukui, commander of the Hawaii Police Department’s East Hawaii Criminal Investigations Division.
