66-year-old man dies of traffic injuries 06-24-03

A 66-year-old man died Tuesday (June 24, 2003) at Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu of injuries he suffered in a traffic accident that occurred on June 13, 2003, in North Kohala.

The victim was identified as Roy S. Warner, of a Kapaau, North Kohala, address.

Responding to a 10:20 p.m. report of a vehicle accident on June 13, police determined that the victim was driving a moped west on the shoulder of Akoni Pule Highway (Route 270) when he sideswiped a car making a left turn onto Omachi Road.

Warner was taken to the North Hawaii Community Hospital and then flown to Queen’s. He was pronounced dead at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Traffic Enforcement Unit officers are continuing an investigation into the accident and have ordered an autopsy to determine exact cause of death.

Warner’s death was the 15th traffic fatality of the year so far on the Big Island, compared to 14 at the same time last year.
