MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

Kona police charged a 25-year-old suspect Sunday (November 4, 2001) with attempted robbery and terroristic threatening after he allegedly tried to rob the Lanihau Branch of the First Hawaiian Bank in Kona.

At 1:55 p.m., Sheridan Kuhl, 25, of a Coffee Estate Road address in Captain Cook, South Kona, was charged with one count of first-degree attempted robbery and two counts of terroristic threatening. He remains in the Kona police cellblock in lieu of $70,000 bail.

Kona police responding to an 11:22 a.m. report of a robbery in progress Saturday arrested the suspect after he ran from the bank.

An investigation determined that a local adult male entered the bank, brandished a dagger, jumped onto the customer counter and demanded money from the tellers. When his attempt failed, the suspect then ran out the door, where he was confronted by responding offices and placed under arrest.
