Big Island police are reminding motorists to drive with extra caution this Halloween and watch out for trick-or-treating children, especially during times of darkness.

Halloween this year falls on Friday (October 31, 2003).

The Police Department has also issued the following safety tips for parents:

Parents are urged to notify the Police Department if they find any suspicious treats. It is recommended that persons welcoming trick-or-treaters leave a porch light on to encourage visitors.

Police officers will be on patrol in neighborhoods to maintain safe conditions for children.

To ensure a safe holiday, police will also continuine DUI checkpoints and patrols around the island.
