Big Island police captured one of three Hawai`i Community Correctional Center escapees on Thursday (October 13, 2005) in a Puna subdivision.
Responding to an anonymous tip by a member of the community that one of the men being sought was asleep in a vehicle, Puna patrol officers located Franklin Enos, 31-years old, sleeping in vehicle parked within a private driveway in the Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision. Enos was taken in to custody without incident.
Enos, who was being jailed as a detainee without bail pending a hearing for violating his parole, escaped October 2, 2005, from the Hawai`i Community Correctional Center along with two other inmates, 25-year old Shawn DeCosta and 23-year old Kole Kuokamakana Race-Joaquin. The trio were reportedly able to climb out of the facility by removing a metal screen and louvers of a restroom window, then lowering themselves down to the ground outside.
Enos was taken to the Hawai`i Community Correctional Center for the Escape charge in addition to his original detention matter. Bail for the Escape has been set at $2,000.
DeCosta and Race-Joaquin remain at large. Police reiterate that these men are considered dangerous and should not be approached. Anyone with information on either individual’s whereabouts is asked to call Detective Juergen Canda of the Criminal Investigation Section at 961-2381 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.
Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. All Crime Stoppers information is kept strictly confidential.
