MEDIA RELEASE

Pahoa High and Intermediate School was the site of a free wrestling clinic and take-down tournament on Saturday, November 4. It was presented in partnership with the Pahoa Weed and Seed project and Hawaii County's Office of the Prosecuting Attorney.

Letty Galloway, one of the organizers from Weed and Seed, said the purpose was to promote a healthier and safer community and to foster enthusiasm in children. "We really feel that it's a deterrent against drugs," Galloway said.

Guest clinician John Q. Robinson, the head coach of Team Hawaii, USA Wrestling, demonstrated various wrestling techniques.

Community Police Officers were on hand to offer Keiki IDs and officers from the Hawaii Police Department's vice section presented information on drug awareness, recognition and its effects.

For entertainment, the school's gifted and talented students of Na Pua Mae Ole O Pahoa presented a free musical performance.

In October 2004 the U.S. Department of Justice designated Pahoa as a Weed and Seed Community. The purpose is to "weed out" violent crime, drug abuse and gang activity and "seed in" prevention programs, business and social development.
