MEDIA RELEASE (CORRECTION)

Big Island police are asking for the public's assistance in identifying a man being sought in connection with an attempted robbery.

At about 11 p.m. on May 5, 2006, a woman reported that while she was alone just outside her Wainaku Street apartment, an unknown man approached her from behind, assaulted her and attempted to steal jewelry she was wearing.

The woman was injured in the attack and was taken to Hilo Medical Center, where she was treated and later released.

The suspect is described as a local male in his mid-thirties, about 5-foot-8 with a large build and a shaved or military-type haircut.

Police ask anyone with information about this case to call Detective Richard Sherlock at 961-2379 or the Police Department's non-emergency number at 961-8300.
