A 90-year-old Hilo man died Tuesday (June 12) at The Queens Medical Center from injuries he received in a one-vehicle crash on May 3, 2007, in the parking lot of the Kamana Elderly Housing.

The victim was identified as Henry Barba, of Hilo.

Responding to a 3 a.m. call on May 3, South Hilo patrol officers determined that Barba was operating a 1989 Dodge multi-purpose vehicle and reversing from a parking stall at the Kamana Elderly Housing when he struck a wooden wall. He then pulled forward and struck two parked vehicles.

Barba was flown to The Queens Medical Center with a head injury and died June 12 at 7:15 p.m.

Police do not believe that speed, alcohol or drugs were factors in this crash.

Traffic Enforcement Unit officers have initiated a coroner's inquest case and are awaiting reports from the City & County of Honolulu Medical Examiner's Office.

Because this death occurred in a private parking lot, it is not counted toward the official traffic fatality count.
