...arrested on meth charges

Big Island police arrested four individuals on drug charges, including the trafficking of methamphetamine, in two separate investigations this week. 

Investigators with the department's Vice Section executed a search warrant on a Paipai Street home in the Panaewa area early Tuesday morning (September 11) and arrested 33-year-old Peter K. Mahi, 35-year-old Maria L. Spencer and 35-year-old Arnold Abot, all residents of that address. Officers recovered 1.5 grams of "ice" and several forms of paraphernali related to the drug's use and distribution.

The following day, Abot was released pending further investigation into his involvement in the drug distribution activities. Mahi and Spencer were each charged with three counts each of third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and possessing drug paraphernalia, along with one count of methamphetamine trafficking.  Their bail was set at $26,000 each. They appeared for their initial court appearance in South Hilo District Court on Thursday (September 13).  Bail for the pair was maintained and they are being held at Hawaii Community Correctional Center.

On Thursday (September 13), Vice officers executed another search warrant on a home on the 100 block of Kaumana Drive in Hilo. There they arrested 56-year-old Erica G. Perreira, who lives there.  In this case, officers recovered 6.2 grams of "ice," 48 grams of processed marijuana and paraphernalia related to the distribution of both drugs. 

A few hours after her arrest, Perreira was charged with one count each of  second- and third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, second-degree promotion of a detrimental drug, two counts of possessing drug paraphernalia and one count of methamphetamine trafficking. Perreira was released after posting $11,100 bail.   

These arrests are part of the Police Department’s ongoing efforts to curtail the proliferation of crystal methamphetamine or "ice" in our community. We encourage concerned citizens to continue providing tips to the Ice Hotline at 934-8423.
