Officers from the Hawai'i Police Department arrested seven adults and one juvenile last week in connection with a marijuana growing operation in South Kohala.
At 11:18 a.m. on April 21, investigators from the Area II Vice Section served a search warrant at a home on Pu'uone Place in Waikoloa. Officers recovered 335 marijuana plants, cultivation equipment, more than four pounds of dried marijuana, two "ice" pipes, two rifles and ammunition. Police also seized $1,651 in cash for forfeiture.
The juvenile was released to the custody of a parent later that afternoon.
As a result of the investigation, the following individuals were charged on April 22:
- Nancy Kainoa, 48, of Waikoloa with one count each of promoting a dangerous drug and drug paraphernalia. Her bail was set at $10,000.
- Brandon Brett, 22, of Waikoloa with one count each of commercial promotion of marijuana and promoting a detrimental drug and two counts of drug paraphernalia. He was also arrested and charged on an outstanding bench warrant for criminal contempt of court. His bail was set at $20,500.
- Shane Feeney, 21 of Kohala with one count each of promoting a detrimental drug and drug paraphernalia. His bail was set at $2,000.
- Jeremy Payne, 29 of Hilo with one count each of promoting a detrimental drug and drug paraphernalia. His bail was set at $2,000.
- Jonathan Contreras, 20, of Waikoloa with one count of commercial promotion of marijuana, two counts of promoting a detrimental drug, and two counts of drug paraphernalia. His bail was set at $20,250.
- Andrew Peterson, 23, of Waikoloa with one count of commercial promotion of marijuana, two counts of promoting a detrimental drug and three counts of drug paraphernalia. His bail was set at $30,000.
- Tyler Peterson, 25, of Waikoloa with one count of commercial promotion of marijuana, two counts of promoting a detrimental drug, three counts of drug paraphernalia and four firearms offenses. His bail was set at $32,000.
