Attempted Bank Robbery in Hilo 07-05-01

A man tried to rob the Hawaii National Bank branch in downtown Hilo on Thursday (July 5, 2001).
At 9:17 a.m., a lone male entered the bank branch and handed a teller a note demanding money.
When he failed to get any money, the would-be robber fled the bank. He was seen fleeing on a bicycle makai on Kalakaua Avenue, then in the Keaukaha direction on Kamehameha Avenue.
He was last seen near the intersection of Kamehameha Avenue and Haili Street, when he abandoned his bicycle and got into a maroon-color sedan with an unknown driver.
The suspect was described as possibly a Caucasian, about 6 feet in height, weighing about 175 pounds with a medium build, being clean-shaven and wearing dark glasses and a green parka-type jacket with a drawstring around the head.
