MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

Preliminary autopsy results Tuesday (July 10, 2001) indicated that a man who police found unconscious in a public park died as a result of physical assault with blunt force trauma to the head.

The victim, Alden Pauline, 46, of a Kailua-Kona address, was found Sunday at a Kona beach park and died the next day at the Kona Community Hospital.

Kona Criminal Investigation Section detectives are continuing a murder investigation of the death and are in the process of identifying a suspect.

Police had received call at 10:05 p.m. Sunday that a man was lying on the ground at the Kahaluu Beach parking lot. Responding officers called Fire Rescue personnel, who treated the victim for head injuries and took him to the Kona hospital for further treatment. At 11:32 a.m. Monday, Pauline was pronounced dead at the hospital.
