MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

An autopsy conducted Tuesday (June 20, 2000) determined that a 60-year-old Colorado man died of salt water drowning.

The victim, Timothy Cavanagh, of Greeley, Colorado, died Monday while swimming in Kealakekua Bay, South Kona.

Cavanagh, among a group of divers aboard the Fair Wind, a snorkel cruise catamaran, was swimming near the Captain Cook monument when crew members noticed him floating face down in the water.

The Seaquest, a second tour boat nearby, took the victim to the dock at Napoopoo, where fire rescue personnel tried unsuccessfully to revive him.

Cavanagh was taken to the Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
