MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

The results of an autopsy conducted Monday (April 22, 2002) on a 67-year-old man who died after a one-car traffic accident determined that the victim died of a heart attack, not as a result of the accident.

The victim, identified as William H. Myers, was involved in a one-car traffic accident on Kamehameha III Road in Keauhou, North Kona.

Police officers determined that Myers was driving a 1995 Ford four-door sedan west on Kamehameha III Road, when he stopped on the road and slumped back in his seat. The vehicle’s passenger got out of the car to provide assistance, but the car rolled and struck a stonewall.

Myers was taken to the Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:08 p.m.

His death will not be counted as a traffic fatality. The fatality count on the Big Island so far this year remains at 14, compared to 10 at the same time last year.
