MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

The results of an autopsy determined that a 65-year-old man whom police thought had died of injuries in a one-car crash actually died of a heart attack.

The autopsy results released Monday (June 13, 2005) show that Paul Wrigglesworth, of a Waikoloa address, had suffered a heart attack before his 1989 Mazda two-door sedan ran off the right side of Waikoloa Road.

Wrigglesworth was traveling west when his car ran off the road about 9:15 p.m. The victim was taken to the North Hawaii Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:10 p.m.

Traffic Enforcement Unit officers had ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of Wrigglesworth’s death.

Because of the autopsy results, police said the Big Island traffic fatality toll so far this year stands at 16, compared to 20 at the same time last year.
