MEDIA RELEASE

Four police-related segments will air Thursday (August 1, 2002) and Friday over cable television’s Public Access Channel 55.

The segments, to be featured on the “Hawai’i Aloha” program, will be shown at 8:00-9:30 p.m. on Thursday and at 10:00-11:30 p.m. on Friday.

The segments will feature the following subjects:

  • Special Response Team (SWAT), with Major Harry Kubojiri, head of the SRT program.
  • Marijuana eradication program, with Lieutenant Henry Tavares, head of the Hilo Vice Section, and various Hilo Vice Section officers.
  • Narcotic K-9 program, with Lieutenant Tavares, various Hilo Vice Section officers and the Hilo Vice Section’s narcotics dog, Li’i.
  • An interview with Executive Assistant Bill Kenoi of the mayor’s office on the Big Island’s problem with crystal methamphetamine, or “ice.”

Narrator Janet Snyder, the mayor’s public relations specialist, and cameraman Rosie Rosenthal videotaped the segments.
