Employees of the Hawai’i Police Department, their families and members of the community gave the “Gift of Life” during the Police Department’s annual blood drive for the Blood Bank of Hawai’i on Wednesday (May 27).

The blood drive collected 145 pints of blood from 171 donors, exceeding the Police Department’s goal of 140 pints.

“With everyone’s hard work, we have the potential to save 435 lives with the blood we collected,” said Ferna Yamamoto, field representative for the Blood Bank of Hawai’i.

Blood Drive Chair Joy Hatayama, secretary of the Police Department’s Administrative Services Bureau, thanked the blood donors and those who provided refreshments, monetary support and manpower assistance. “Your contributions are appreciated and valued,” she said. “This could not have happened without your dedication.”
