Burglars Steal Cache of Trading Cards 05/22/00

About $8,500 in merchandise, most of it in Pokemon and other trading cards, were stolen over the weekend from a downtown Hilo shop.

Sometime between 3:30 p.m. Saturday (May 20, 2000) and 12 p.m. Sunday, a thief or thieves broke into KD’s Gifts and Crafts at 94 Keawe Street.

The thieves stole Pokemon, Digimon and Neo booster packs and trading cards, a T-shirt dress, a Pokemon black backpack and other items. The most expensive item stolen was a black three-ring binder containing about 1,000 rare Pokemon trading cards.

Anyone with information about the theft or the identity of the thieves is asked to call Officer Joel Field of the South Hilo Patrol at 961-2213.

Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. The numbers are answered 24 hours a day. Callers will be given a coded number and their identity will remain anonymous. Callers may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 if their call leads to an arrest, indictment or the recovery of property. Crime Stoppers neither subscribes to “Caller ID,” nor does it record phone calls.
