Burglars steal more than $18,000 in equipment 08-10-05

Police are asking for the public’s help in solving a burglary and theft of more than $18,000 in equipment from a Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Company staging area off Kawiki Road in South Hilo.

Responding to a 4 a.m. call, South Hilo patrol officers determined that burglary occurred sometime between Thursday afternoon (August 11, 2005) and early Friday.

Burglars broke into a storage shed and stole a John Deere six-wheel all-terrain vehicle valued at $10,000 and a water pump valued at $8,000. They also broke into a semi-trailer truck and stole a CB radio and damaged another vehicle.

Anyone with information about the theft or the identity of the thieves is asked to call Officer Derek Morimoto of the South Hilo Patrol at 961-2213 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.
