Media Release

A 21-year-old man already in jail facing burglary and theft charges has been charged with another burglary.

The latest charge stems from a reported burglary August 31. On that date, neighbors reported that they saw an unknown man arriving at and exiting a home on Andrade Road in Pepeʻekeo while the owners were away. When they confronted the suspect, he ran away.

Investigation by the Area I Criminal Investigations Section led to the identity of the suspect as Scott Taira of Pepeʻekeo, who was arrested last week and charged with burglary and theft for a break-in September 4 on Maukaloa Street in Pepeʻekeo.

Detectives arrested Taira on Wednesday (September 10) at Hawaiʻi Community Correctional Center and took him to the Hilo Police cellblock, where they processed him and charged him with first-degree burglary for the August 31 break-in. His bail on that offense was set at $5,000.

He was returned to the jail pending his initial court appearance for the latest charge on Thursday (September 11).
