Big Island Police would like to inform the public about an increase in vehicle break-ins at a popular parking area for hikers visiting the Kaloli coastline in Puna.

The break-ins are occurring at the dead end of Beach Road off Kaloli Drive in the Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision. Police have recorded eight break-ins during the first four months of 2010 compared with one during the first four months of 2009.

Police would like to remind hikers that they should not leave valuables in their vehicle even if it is locked.
