A Big Island man and woman are in police custody after being arrested in a stolen car.

Hamakua patrol officers stopped Douglas Daniel “Oni’ Kaimiola, 22, no permanent address, and Kandalin Deponte, 32, of Waimea in Honokaa on Sunday, April 30, 2006.

The case was turned over to West Hawaii Criminal investigations Section detectives, who charged Kaimiola on Tuesday (May 2, 2006) with three counts of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, two counts of abuse of a family member, promoting a dangerous drug, possessing drug paraphernalia, reckless endangering, first-degree terroristic threatening, three firearms offenses, second-degree theft and driving without a license. He was also arrested and charged for two outstanding bench warrants. His bail was set at $44,800.

Deponte was charged the same day with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle. Her bail was set at $2,000.

Both were unable to post bail and remained in the Kona police cellblock until a court appearance Wednesday (May 3, 2006).

Detectives are continuing their investigation of property recovered from within the stolen vehicle.
