MEDIA RELEASE

The Hawaii County Police Department issued a total of 107 citations for automobile seat belt violations during its recent “Click It or Ticket” campaign.

The campaign, aimed at increasing awareness of Hawaii’s seat belt laws, was conducted from November 25 through December 1, 2002.

Besides the 107 seat belt citations, officers also issued one citation for child restraint violations, gave out 66 citations for other violations and made two arrests.

Sergeant Randy K. Apele, head of the Traffic Services Section, said that although the current phase of the “Click It or Ticket” campaign has been completed, police officers would continue to enforce seat belt and child restraint safety regulations throughout the island, especially during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.
