MEDIA RELEASE

Eighty-five basketball teams will complete in the “Click It or Ticket” 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament to be held Saturday and Sunday (November 15-16, 2003) at the Keaau High School Gymnasium as part of the National “Click It or Ticket” mobilization.

About 425 youths and teens aged 7 through 18 are expected to take part in the tournament.

All participants and their parents have pledged to use their seat belts while riding in an automobile.

“We are using this athletic event as a forum to provide education and awareness of our seat belt laws,” said Sergeant Randy Apele of the Traffic Services Section.

“Most people are unaware that state law requires all youths and teens 4 through 17 years old to be seat-belted whether they are a front- or rear-seat passenger. As a result, about only 70 percent of our children are seat-belted as passengers in the back seat of cars, as compared to about 90 percent of all passengers in the front seat.”

The public is invited to attend the tournament.

On Saturday, games will be played from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and on Sunday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
