‘Click It’ tourney set for West Hawaii 08-01-05

The Hawaii Police Department’s Traffic Services Section and Hawaii Isle Police Activities League is sponsoring a HI-PAL “Click It or Ticket” 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament.

Tournament play will take place on August 27-28, 2005, at the Waimea Parker School Gym in South Kohala.

Team entries are being accepted in the following age groups: 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-17 for both boys and girls divisions. A player may play only in one division, and the age cut-off date is December 31, 2005.

“The goal of the tournament is to educate our parents and youths on our seatbelt laws,” said Sergeant Dexter Veriato, head of the Traffic Services Section. “Click It or Ticket” is a national educational and enforcement campaign to increase seatbelt usage and decrease traffic fatalities and injuries.

Interested teams should call the HI-PAL Kona office at 326-4646, Ext. 258; the HI-PAL Hilo office at 961-2219; or the Traffic Services Section at 961-2305. Each division will be limited.

Teams from North and South Kona must complete and drop off their registration packets at the HI-PAL Kona Office between 4 and 8 p.m. on August 18, 2005. Teams from North and South Kohala and Hamakua must drop of their registration packets at the Waimea Police Station between 4 and 8 p.m. on the same date.
