Hawaii County police are asking for the public’s help in identifying whoever vandalized the new courthouse under construction in Hilo.

At 7:10 a.m. Monday (March 24), South Hilo patrol officers responded to 777 Kilauea Avenue after receiving a criminal property damage complaint.

Police learned that the supect or suspects gained illegal entry to the property and then vandalized numerous walls by defacing them with ink markers. The suspect or suspects also dumped carpet glue and sand throughout the building and threw white grease at three large-screen televisions. Damage was estimated at $25,000.

The case has been classified as a first-degree criminal property damage, which is a Class B felony, and a second-degree burglary, which is a Class C felony.
