Media Release

Big Island police have arrested one man and are seeking another in connection with a reported incident in Puna on August 20.

Police received a report that a Mitsubishi sedan pulled alongside a Honda Civic on Kahakai Boulevard in the Hawaiian Beaches subdivision while both cars were in motion and that a passenger in the Mitsubishi reached out and smashed the window of the Honda with a metal pipe. The Mitsubishi then reportedly swerved and sideswiped the Honda, causing damage to both cars, before leaving the scene.

On Wednesday, police arrested the Mitsubishi’s passenger, 19-year-old Kahee Manuwai of Pāhoa, and charged him with two felony counts of criminal property damage. His bail was set at $7,000.

Police are asking for the public’s help in locating the Mitsubishi’s driver, identified as 18-year-old Ronsten Andrade. He is described as 6-feet tall, 190 pounds with a medium build, brown eyes and brown hair. He is also wanted for three outstanding bench warrants with bail set at $14,000. The warrants stem from an unauthorized control of a motor vehicle case and a theft of a motor vehicle case.

Andrade is known to live at various locations in Puna. Police advise the public to use extreme caution around him and not to attempt to detain him but, instead, to call the Police Department’s non-emergency line immediately at 935-3311. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. All Crime Stoppers information is kept confidential.
