Media Release

Hawaiʻi Island police remind motorist that Monday (August 5) is the first day children return to public schools.

Motorist should expect an increase in traffic—especially in school zones—during morning and afternoon hours.

Sergeant Robert P. Pauole of the Traffic Services Section suggests that motorists adjust their daily schedules and start their day earlier to avoid the need to rush while commuting to work. “Also,” Pauole said, “while driving in school zones, use caution and be attentive of children walking to school and crossing within marked crosswalks.”
