HAWAII COUNTY POLICE DEPARTMENT
WEST HAWAII ICE TASK FORCE
DETECTIVE DERRIK M. DIEGO
MAY 18, 2004
West Hawaii Ice Task Force detectives arrested and charged a 45-year-old man for a variety of drug offenses Tuesday (May 18, 2004) after executing search warrants on a motor vehicle and waist pack.
The suspect, identified as Roy Nelson Ledward, of Holualoa, was charged with two counts of promoting dangerous drugs, two counts of promoting detrimental drugs and two counts of illegal possession of drug paraphernalia.
The suspect was also arrested and charged with discharge of sureties — or revocation of bail bond — after he was arrested Kona in April 2004 on other unrelated drug offenses stemming from a drug raid that occurred in Captain Cook, South Kona.
Ledward is currently being held in the Kona police cellblock in lieu of $13,750 bail.
Ledward was originally arrested Sunday for driving under the influence and two counts of negligent injury after his vehicle allegedly struck and injured a father and his young son who were walking along Alii Drive.
The victims, identified as Emil Spencer, 40, and Kihei Spencer, 7, of Kailua-Kona, were flown to Queen’s Hospital in Honolulu in critical condition.
On Tuesday, the father was reported still in critical condition in the intensive care ward. His son was reported in stabled condition and transferred out of intensive care.
Charges for the DUI and negligent injury offenses are pending further investigation.
Ledward was arrested and charged with the drug offenses after officers recovered small amounts of “ice,” or crystal methamphetamine, and nearly eight grams of dried marijuana, a glass smoke pipe, syringes and cigarette rolling papers.
