During the week of January 14-21, 2002, Big Island police arrested 10 motorists for drunk driving. Three of the drivers were involved in traffic accidents.
So far this year, there have been 38 DUI arrests, a 38 percent decrease from the 61 arrested during the same period last year.
There have been 105 major accidents so far this year, compared to 102 during the same period last year, an increase of 3 percent.
There has been one traffic fatality on the Big Island so far this year, compared to none during the same period last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will be continued on an islandwide basis.
