During the week of February 5-11, 2001, Big Island police arrested 23 motorists for drunk driving. Seven of the drivers were involved in traffic accidents, and three were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 123 DUI arrests, a 26 percent decrease from the 167 arrested during the same period last year.
There have been no traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year, compared to two during the same period last year.
