During the week of February 14-20, 2005, Big Island police arrested 11 motorists for drunk driving. Two of the drivers were involved in traffic collisions and one was under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 86 DUI arrests, compared to 132 during the same period last year, a decrease of 35 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 231 major accidents so far this year, compared to 313 during the same period last year, a decrease of 26 percent.
There have been six traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year, compared to seven for the same period last year, a decrease of 14 percent. There have been no alcohol-related fatalities so far this year, compared to three at this time last year, a decrease of 100 percent. There have been no drug-related fatalities so far this year, compared to two at the same time last year, a decrease of 100 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will be continued on an islandwide basis.
