During the week of March 12-18, 2001, Big Island police arrested two motorists for drunk driving. One of the drivers was involved in a traffic accident, and one was under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 189 DUI arrests, a 31 percent decrease from the 275 arrested during the same period last year.
There have been 486 major accidents so far this year, compared to 463 during the same period last year, an increase of 5 percent.
There have been two traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year, compared to seven during the same period last year, a decrease of 71 percent.
