During the week of December 4, 2007, through December 10, 2007, Big Island police arrested 35 motorists for drunk driving. Eight of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. Five were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 1,296 DUI arrests compared with 1,187 during the same period last year, an increase of 9 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 2,001 major accidents so far this year compared with 2,321 during the same period last year, a decrease of 14 percent.
So far this year, there have been 35 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 32 during the same period last year, an increase of 9 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
