Big Island police have seized a total of 4,265 marijuana plants ranging in height from seedlings to four feet as part of its continuing “Counter-Cannabis Field Operation.”

During the one-day operation Thursday (June 15, 2000), officers conducted a sweep in the areas of Waiakea Uka in South Hilo and Orchidland, Kurtistown and Glenwood in Puna.

Joining Big Island police officers in the marijuana eradication enforcement effort were personnel from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

Acting on search warrants, officers also arrested three persons for illegally growing marijuana.

On Wednesday, they arrested a 17-year-old male and confiscated 194 marijuana plants ranging in height from seedlings to four feet on property off Lehua Street in Fern Acres, Puna.

On Friday, officers confiscated 12 marijuana plants ranging in height from one to four feet and 7.2 grams of dried marijuana on property off Kihalani Homestead Road in Laupahoehoe, North Hilo.

Also on Friday, officers arrested a man, 48, and a woman, 27, and confiscated 641 marijuana plants ranging in height from seedlings to four feet and 232 grams of seeds and dried processed marijuana on property off Omega Road in Fern Forest, Puna.

Those arrested have been released pending further investigation.
