MEDIA RELEASE

Eighty basketball teams will compete in the “Click It or Ticket” 3-on-3 Basketball tournament to be held from Thursday (August 19, 2004) through Sunday (August 22, 2004) at the Papaikou Gymnasium.

More than 400 youths and teens aged 5 through 18 are expected to take part in the tournament.

All participants and their parents have pledged to use their seat belts while riding in an automobile.

“We are using this athletic even as a forum to provide education and awareness of our seat belt laws,” said Lieutenant Randy Apele, head of the Traffic Services Section.

“Current back seat usage rates for youth and teens aged 4 through 17 years of age are at 87 percent, considerably lower than the 96 percent usage rate for all front seat passengers.

“Youth seat belt usage rates have risen in recent years, but it’s still not enough — especially since traffic crashes are the number one cause of death for youth.”

The public is invited to attend the tournament.

Games on Thursday and Friday will be played from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday games will be played from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Sunday games, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Concessions will be available throughout the event.
