MEDIA RELEASE

Hilo firefighters extinguished a fire of mysterious origins in a car found parked in the garage of a Halai Street home Wednesday (August 13, 2003).

Responding to a 10:27 a.m. call, police and firefighters arrived to find a white two-door Honda engulfed in flames.

Police determined that the owner of the house had left home about 10 a.m. Sometime later, the neighbor noticed that a white car, which didn’t belong to the owner, was in flames in the garage. The neighbor tried to extinguish the blaze, but was unable to put them out and called firefighters.

Police said the car was destroyed in the fire, but had no immediate estimate of damage.

Anyone who owns a missing white two-door Honda or who has information about the fire is asked to call Detective John Ancheta of the East Hawaii Juvenile Aid Section at 961-2276 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.
