MEDIA RELEASE

The 10th Annual Hawaii Police Commemorative Fund Tournament has added a new event — a goodwill golf tournament.

The tournament is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m., Saturday, May 20, 2000, at the Banyan Drive Golf Course in Hilo. Registration begins at 7 a.m.

The tournament is limited to the first 60 golfers, and the deadline for entry is Friday, May 19, 2000.

The entrance fee is $30 per person, which includes green fees and sharing a cart with another golfer. The fee for walkers is $15 per person. There will be a late fee of $5 extra for golfers who apply after the deadline.

Applications can be picked up at the Information and Complaints window at the Hilo police station, 349 Kapiolani Street, at any other police station on the Big Island or at the Banyan Drive Golf Course. Interested golfers are asked to contact Officers Joseph Botelho or John Stewart of the South Hilo Patrol Division at 961-2213.

The event is open to the general public, with the proceeds going to fund annual scholarships at both the University of Hawaii at Hilo and the Hawaii Community College. A portion of the proceeds will also be used for the construction of a memorial monument dedicated to Hawaii police officers killed in the line of duty.

Refreshments will be available during and after the event.

Trophies will be awarded for winners of Flights A, B, C and “Calloway.” Prizes will also be awarded for closest to the hole and longest drive, and mulligans will be for sale at registration.
