The Hawaii Police Commemorative Fund announced a recipient of two scholarships offered through the Hawaii Community College.

Avis Yoshioka, a sophomore at the Hawaii Community College, was recently awarded the “Kenneth K. Keliipio Memorial Scholarship” and the “Ronald ‘Shige’ Jitchaku Memorial Scholarship.” Both $500 scholarships are funded by the Hawaii Police Commemorative Fund through its annual fundraising events.

Yoshioka graduated from James B. Castle High School on Oahu. She is majoring in Administration of Justice and Liberal Arts, where she has maintained a 3.46 grade point average. Upon completion, of studies at the Hawaii Community College, she plans to pursue a degree in Criminal Justice at the University of Hawaii.

Yoshioka said that she is thankful for the scholarship, which has helped financially toward realizing her long-term objective, which is to become a counselor or a social worker in Hawaii.
