The Hawaii Police Department’s Traffic Services Section and the Hawaii Isle Police Activities League (HI-PAL) will hold another Click It or Ticket 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament on Saturday, July 19, and Sunday, July 20, at the Honokaa Sports Complex Gymnasium in Honokaa.

Team entries will be accepted in the following age groups: 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-17 for boys; girls 12 and under, girls 14 and under and girls 15-17. A player may play in only one division. The age cut-off date is December 31, 2008.

“The goals of this tournament are to educate our participants’ parents, young adult participant drivers and youth participants about our seat belt, booster seat and child restraint laws, as well as provide an event in which participants and supporters can enjoy themselves,” said Officer Joe Botelho Jr., East Hawaii HI-PAL coordinator. “The Click It or Ticket campaign is a nationwide educational and enforcement campaign to help increase the use of seat belt and other restraints while at the same time attempting to reduce the number of fatalities and injuries caused with non usage.”

Each division will be limited and teams wishing to participate will be required to complete a registration packet prior to the tournament. Completed packets and registrations must be turned in by Wednesday, July 9, before 4:30 p.m. You may drop off the completed packets at the Community Policing office in Building A at the Hilo police station. Completed packets and registrations also can be mailed to:

Teams that participated in the May Click It or Ticket Tournament at Keaau High School and have no changes in team members need not complete new registration packets. However, the roster information must be provided. Teams that will be adding or replacing players from the May event must complete the registration information in the packet.
