The dates and location have changed for one of the “Click It or Ticket” 3-on-3 basketball tournaments sponsored by the Hawai’i Police Department’s Traffic Services Section and the Hawai’i Isle Police Activities League (HI-PAL).

The Ka’u tournament is now being held May 15 and 16 at the Na’alehu School gymnasium.

Team entries are being accepted in the following age groups: 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-17 for boys; girls 10 and under, girls 12 and under, girls 14 and under and girls 15-17. A player may participate in only one division. The age cutoff date is December 31, 2009. Each division will be limited.

Each team must complete a registration packet. Completed packets must be turned in by Friday, May 1, for the Ka’u event; Friday, May 22, for the Kea’au event; Friday, July 3, for the Honoka’a event; and Friday, July 31, for the Keaukaha event. The completed packets may be dropped off at the Community Policing Office, which is located on the first floor of Building A at the South Hilo police station.

Teams interested in participating in the Ka’u event may call Officer Randy Morris at 326-4646, extension 258. Teams interested in participating in the other three events may call Officer Joseph Botelho Jr. at 961-2220 or 896-9710. The FAX number is 961-2209.

“Click It or Ticket” is a national educational and enforcement campaign to increase seat belt use and to decrease traffic fatalities and injuries.
