MEDIA RELEASE

The Hawaii Isle Police Activities League is sponsoring its annual HI-PAL Boys and Girls Intermediate Basketball League.

League play will start September 20 and run until November 5, 2004.

With the help of the HI-PAL staff, teams are formed within public or private intermediate schools and play against teams from other intermediate schools. All registered seventh and eighth grade players will go through a draft system within their school. Home school students and students at schools that cannot form a team will be placed on teams that don’t have enough players.

The league will be limited to the first 16 teams for boys and 12 teams for girls. A mandatory coaches meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday (September 7, 2004) in the Hilo police station’s training room.

HI-PAL is also looking for responsible adults who would be interested in coaching a team for the HI-PAL program. All interested adults must be present at this meeting to confirm that they are willing to coach a team.

Anyone interested in participating for a team is asked to call the HI-PAL office at 961-2219 or 961-2220 for more information.
